Exercise Stress Testing
Exercise Stress Testing | Northern Cardiology Specialist Clinic
An Exercise Stress Test is used as a means of assessing how your heart and blood vessels respond to physical exertion.

We use exercise stress tests for:
Add to your overall diagnosis
How likely is it that you have heart disease? Exrecise stress testing can show abnomalities that other tests may not reveal.
Measure
The exercise capacity in people with known coronary artery disease. An exercise test is used to estimate the severity of the blockages and response of the heart to physical exertion in patients. It may be used after heart surgery, stent insertion, or if medications are changed.
Assess
The the exercise capacity and progression of the disease in people with other cardiac abnormalities, such as Valvular disease and Cardiomyopathy.
During the Test:
One of our experienced Doctors and a Cardiac Technician will be there with you to monitor and supervise the test. They will continuously monitor your blood pressure, pulse rate and an electrocardiogram. The test will be stopped when the Doctor feels it is appropriate.

The treadmill will slowly increase in speed and slope at certain intervals whilst your blood pressure, electrocardiogram {ECG) and heart rate are constantly monitored.

You should wear loose, comfortable clothing for the test with appropriate walking shoes.
After the Test
You will be asked to rest for about 10-15 minutes before leaving the premises.
